RE: Prayer for the 15th Anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks on America.

Hard though it is to believe, fifteen years will soon have elapsed since that infamous, world-altering day: September 11, 2001.

As our nation commemorates the occasion, I encourage you to take part in your local and municipal observances, joining with our fellow citizens of the United States of America.

With this letter I am directing all our parishes to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks with a special prayer on Sunday, September 11, 2016, following the Divine Liturgy.  Click here to download the prayer for the occasion.

This 15th anniversary coincides with a major feast day of the Armenian Church: the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The traditional practice of our church on major feasts is to refrain from performing the hokehankisd service (which is observed on the day immediately following the feast, as merelots, or the remembrance of the dead). This practice should be observed by our Diocesan parishes on September 11, as well. The special prayer may be recited either before or after the antasdan ceremony that is part of the Exaltation observance.

As we remember those shocking days of fifteen years ago, and reflect on the years since then, may God provide comfort to our fellow citizens, and may He always bless America.

With prayers,

Archbishop Khajag Barsamian
Primate
